Film Screening: Octopus’s Garden

Drawing inspiration from artist Meret Oppenheim’s multilayered collage, Octopus’s Garden, 1971, this program features short films that utilize cut-outs, collage, layering, and stop-motion animation. Assembling unlikely elements just as Oppenheim did, these films glimpse into uncanny and surreal worlds visualized through animation.

Copresented with Aurora Picture Show, and curated by Mary Magsamen, the program includes films by Barbara Hammer, Lawrence Jordan, Diana Cam Van Nguyen, Jeremy Rourke, Corrie Parks, Carrie Hawks, and others. It is organized in conjunction with the Menil Collection’s exhibition Meret Oppenheim: My Exhibition.

Moon Rooster food truck and Friona Shaved Ice will be on-site serving tacos and snow cones available for purchase.
