When the Art Speaks: Outspoken Bean, Russell Guess, Myaan, and Samiyah

When the Art Speaks, curated by Houston Poet Laureate Emeritus, Outspoken Bean, invites audience members to delve deep into the enigmatic ‘whys’ that art elicits within us, unraveling the profound connection between art and life. Prepare to be moved by the poignant ekphrastic poetry performances by Outspoken Bean and the talented Brave New Voices 2023 poetry slam champions, Myaan, Samiyah, & Adriana. Their words will amplify the emotions and narratives embedded within the works in the Longing, Grief, and Spirituality: Art Since 1980 exhibition featuring visionary artists such as Mel Chin, Kara Walker, and Nari Ward. They invite audiences to experience the art in an entirely new light.

Throughout the evening, the original music underscored by Russell Guess creates an immersive atmosphere that harmoniously blends with the art, poetry, and conversations.
