Join the Menil Collection and Inprint for an interactive writing activity to flex your creative muscles with the exhibition Meret Oppenheim: My Exhibition. Oppenheim created art that defied neat categorizations of medium, style, and historical movement, and her output included object constructions, narrative paintings, hard-edge abstractions, witty drawings, collages and assemblages, and much more. The engaging exhibition, the artist’s first transatlantic retrospective, lends itself to contemplation and discussion. Writer and Inprint fellow Josie Mitchell will guide attendees in this free hour-and-a-half-long writing workshop centered around themes from the exhibition. No prior creative writing workshop experience needed.

Josie Mitchell was a recipient of an Inprint Mary Gibbs and Jesse H. Jones Fellowship while earning her MFA in fiction at the University of Houston Creative Writing Program. She teaches creative writing at the University of Houston, with Inprint, WITS, and Grackle and Grackle. With the Houston Arts Alliance Support for Artists and Creative Individuals 2020 grant, Josie collaborated with poets and artists to create the East End Postales project. She is the 2021–-2023 scholar-in-residence with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at the University of Houston, and her work can be found in Flyway: Journal or Writing and Environment, Boneshaker, Vancouver Contemporary Museum, and elsewhere.
