New York-based artist Kate Shepherd delivers an Artist Talk at the Menil Collection. Throughout her career, Shepherd has explored perspectival and abstracted spaces in her richly colored paintings. In this lecture, she discusses the evolution of her formal technique, from her signature use of fine lines to delineate space, to the introduction of texture to define forms in her most recent body of work. Shepherd’s Yellow Shunning Figure (2008), which is part of the Menil’s permanent collection, is on view in the galleries this spring.
About the artist:
Kate Shepherd (b. 1961) was born in New York City, where she currently lives and works. Her works are in the collections of Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.; the Menil Collection, Houston; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo. Shepherd has a long-standing commitment to printmaking, and she has made editions with and for Pace Prints, Lower East Side Print Shop, Dieu Donné, Chinati Foundation, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has had solo exhibitions with many galleries including Galerie Lelong & Co, Anthony Meier Fine Arts, Hiram Butler Gallery, and Krakow Witkin Gallery.
