Book Launch of Drawing Is Everything: Founding Gifts of the Menil Drawing Institute

The public is invited to a book launch celebrating the Menil’s new publication, Drawing Is Everything: Founding Gifts of the Menil Drawing Institute. There will be remarks at 6 p.m. from Menil Collection Director Rebecca Rabinow, John R. Eckel, Jr. Foundation Chief Curator, Menil Drawing Institute Edouard Kopp, and Director of Publishing Joseph Newland. There will be a selection of drawings from the collection on view in the Drawing Room.

Featuring outstanding 19th and 20th-century drawings promised or bequeathed to the Menil Collection for the opening of the Menil Drawing Institute, this elegant volume is a testament to the growing significance of drawings as stand-alone artworks over the past century.

The drawings come from the private collections of Janie C. Lee, Louisa Stude Sarofim, and David Whitney, and include works by artists such as Bruce Nauman, Willem de Kooning, Jasper Johns, Eva Hesse, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Jackson Pollock. With essays by Menil Drawing Institute Chief Curator Edouard Kopp, noted scholars John Elderfield and Richard Shiff, and artist Terry Winters.

Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event. This night only, visitors will be offered a 10% discount on purchases of the book.
