Assistant Manager of Special Events
The Menil Collection seeks an assistant manager of special events to collaborate with and provide administrative support to the manager of special events in the organization and coordination of the Menil’s social and special events, from exhibition previews to major galas. Flawless implementation is a hallmark of the institution. Goals, outcomes, timelines, and follow-up are essential to success.
The assistant manager of special events leads assigned patron events and provides support to the manager of special events on others. Event support and ongoing responsibilities include, but are not limited to: collaborating with the manager of special events, and other museum departments to create invitation lists; coordinating the preparation and mailing of invitations and letters; maintaining files, records, and Raiser’s Edge database to track details and plans for events including invitation lists and responses (RSVPs); monitoring event budgets, processing purchase orders for event expenditures, tracking and reporting event expenditures; developing timelines for events and coordinating with internal departments, as needed, for event execution; and, providing on-site support at events to ensure an enjoyable, positive experience for patrons and guests of the Menil.
Considered one of the most important privately assembled collections of the twentieth century, The Menil Collection houses approximately seventeen thousand paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, and rare books. Masterpieces from antiquity, Byzantium, and the medieval period, the cultures of Africa, Oceania, and the American Pacific Northwest and the twentieth century, including significant surrealist holdings, are particularly well represented.
The successful candidate will bring to the position three years events management experience and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Raiser’s Edge, or other data base software, essential. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, congenial and personable demeanor, and positive attitude required. Must possess excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills with a meticulous attention to detail as well as pleasant phone mannerisms and good interpersonal skills. Some evening and weekend work required.
